In 1840, to ameliorate the oppressed society by tradition, Missionaries had established Educational Institutions and Hospitals to reach the common men which was till then forbidden. Realization of education as a tool for development made many of our ancestors to avail the facilities unmindful of making a long journey by walk and daring the prevailing diseases like plaque and cholera. Affordable and free boarding attracted many parents to get their children educated in the remote under develop area of Ramanathapuram district. Among such pioneering Centres were, the abode of Missionaries.
Presently, the Diocese of Madurai-Ramnad has 182 Institutions (174 schools) with 1700 Teaching faculty and 45,000 students learning at various levels. B.Ed Colleges (2), Dental College, Arts & Science College & J.A. College of Nursing to serve the society at tertiary level. The late Rt. Rev. Dr. A. Christopher Asir our former Bishop established two B.Ed colleges in Pasumalai and Ramnad (2006) with the academic guidance of Dr.J.P.Gabriel (Ret. Prof. Education M.K. University). Further developments were under the prophetic guidance of the present Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Joseph and office bearers.
